![]() We had this motel room, and we would go to Smart Studios and work every day," says Novoselic. The sessions were fruitful but not without difficulties. "Kurt was charming and witty, but he would go through these mood swings," says Vig. "He would be totally engaged, then all of a sudden a light switch would go off and he'd go sit in the corner and completely disappear into himself. I didn't really know how to deal with that." Although Nirvana's studio money ran out after five days, the demos they had recorded in that span were strong enough to score them a major-label deal a few months later. ![]() Everybody Loves Our Town captures the grunge era in the words of the musicians, producers, managers, record executives, video directors, photographers, journalists, publicists, club owners, roadies, scenesters and hangers-on who lived through it. The book tells the whole story: from the founding of the Deep Six bands to the worldwide success of grunge's big four (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains); from the rise of Seattle's cash-poor, hype-rich indie label Sub Pop to the major-label feeding frenzy that overtook the Pacific Northwest; from the simple joys of making noise at basement parties and tiny rock clubs to the tragic, lonely deaths of superstars Kurt Cobain & Layne Staley. It includes interviews with Courtney Love, Chris Cornell and members of Nirvana. The author Mark Yarm was a senior editor at Blender and the idea for the book came about when he wrote an oral history of Sub Pop for the magazine. ![]() The book, based on a lengthy interview with Grohl, will feature "an account of Dave Grohl's life that is more personal than anything ever written before, more startling, more thrilling, more heart-rending and more inspiring, Paul Brannigan reveals Dave fully for the first time". Paul Brannigan has a professional relationship with Dave Grohl stretching back almost 15 years: "I consider the two of us to be friends," Grohl told Brannigan when the pair last spent time together in Los Angeles. Brannigan is the former Editor of Kerrang! "the world's biggest weekly music magazine" and his writing on punk rock, grunge and hard rock have also appeared in world-renowned Q and Mojo magazines.
