| NFC News Cobain documentary premiere on Ovation | |
 US TV network Ovation will be airing the premiere of the Last 48 Hours of Kurt Cobain documentary this Saturday. Courtney Love and surviving Nirvana members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic all declined to be interviewed, and there's no music from the band licensed for the film, but there's still plenty to draw interest, including a lot of input from ex-Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan, who spent time with Cobain in his final days. | NFC News The Vaselines to play US gigs |

| NFC News Sub Pop founders talk about label beginnings, Nirvana |
| In a recent Pitchfork interview, Sub Pop founders Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman talk about the label's early days and Nirvana's unprecedented success. In our press releases, we would announce that the Nirvana album was gonna go double platinum and stuff like that, never believing for a minute that would actually happen with the way that distribution and media was set up at that time. I remember Bleach in its first year selling 40,000 copies, which was amazing, remembers Pavitt. They hadn't put out any records yet, they had a single for us, a Shocking Blue cover, Love Buzz. When they brought the single in, they had a 45-second audio montage at the beginning. Now, the single totally rocked, it was a great single, and I said, "Look, speaking as somebody who has a background in radio and a background in reviewing records, you send somebody a single and it doesn't starting rocking until 45 seconds in, you're gonna lose them." If you were Mark E. Smith of the Fall, you could put out anything and people would listen the whole way through. But if you're an unknown band from Aberdeen, Washington, you're lucky if they even put the needle on the record, period. So I strongly suggested that he cut down the intro to 10 seconds or something like that. Read the interview here.

| Gillian G. Gaar wrote a great review of the recent Flipper show in Seattle, including info on Krist Novoselic's appearance at the Experience Music Project Museum before the show. | Nirvana's Unplugged in New York is featured at number 11 in the Top 100 New Music Classics put together by Entertainment Weekly. "Never mind Nevermind. Unplugged captures the band raw and beautiful. Even without their stripped-down originals, the soul-scraping Lead Belly cover Where Did You Sleep Last Night and Bowie's The Man Who Sold the World marked this as an instant classic. | NFC News Cobain Memorial Committee anounces lineup for September benefit |
| The Kurt Cobain Memorial Committee has announced part of the lineup for its second annual Kurt Cobain memorial concert to be held in Hoquiam in September. The money raised at the concert, featuring Schoolyard Heroes and Harvey Danger among others, will be used for a park and youth center in Cobain's name. More info here.
